The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce has named Dr. Tyler Tapps its 2026 Spearhead Honoree for his exceptional civic contributions, Northwest Missouri State University leadership, and dedicated community service, with formal recognition set for the Chamber’s annual banquet on September 10, 2026.
MARYVILLE, MO - The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce has named Dr. Tyler Tapps its 2026 Spearhead Honoree in recognition of his many civic contributions and dedication to the Greater Maryville area. The Chamber Spearhead Award is presented to an individual, like Dr. Tapps, who has demonstrated ongoing support of Chamber goals, participated in its activities, and served as an example of excellence in contributions for the betterment of the community.
Dr. Tyler Tapps has been a Chamber Board Director since 2020. He’s served multiple terms as both president and vice president, as well as multiple years on the nominating and joint executive committees. Currently, Dr. Tapps serves as Associate Provost of Operations and Assessment at Northwest Missouri State University and is an ambassador for Northwest’s Bleed Green campaign. During his tenure at Northwest, Tapps has helped connect more than 200 student interns with businesses and organizations throughout the Maryville community, strengthening connections between the University, its students, and the community. Through the Chamber and his employment at Northwest, Dr. Tapps has contributed to community development and economic enhancement efforts, consulting on a variety of projects and initiatives designed to strengthen the Maryville area.
In addition to his professional achievements, Tapps is an active community leader and volunteer. He currently serves on the St. Francis Foundation Board and is a former member of the Maryville Parks and Recreation Board. He is the founder of Spoofhound Wrestling Club and President of the Maryville Twisters Soccer Association, which provides competitive soccer opportunities for more than 90 area youth participating in the Kansas City Heartland Soccer League. Dr. Tapps is also active in the St. Gregory’s Parish and School, contributing time and leadership through numerous service efforts and committees.
Dr. Tapps and his wife Christy, Northwest Missouri State University Assistant Vice President of Health and Wellness, live in rural Maryville. They are raising two sons, Landon who is 13 and Carter who is 11. Dr. Tapps will be honored at the Chamber’s annual banquet on September 10, 2026, at Mozingo Events Center. A cash bar will be available at 5:45 pm, with dinner following at 6:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now through September 1st for $30.
