The Clarinda Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce will host the 33rd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade on Friday, November 28th in the downtown square, under the theme "Christmas Through the Decades."

CLARINDA, Iowa — The Clarinda Kiwanis Club and the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce announce the 33rd Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, to be held Friday, November 28 at 6:00 p.m. on the downtown square. This year’s theme is “Christmas Through the Decades.”

The parade began in 1993 as a community tradition established two years after the December 11, 1991 fire at the Page County Courthouse. Since its inception, the event has placed special emphasis on recognizing and thanking the area fire departments for their efforts in battling the blaze. As in past years, fire trucks will receive a place of honor, following the color guard and Santa Claus.

The parade’s start will be signaled by the beautiful red-and-green canopy draped from the Page County Courthouse. The lighting of the trees on the courthouse lawn will also be featured. Following the parade, Santa will greet children in his house on the Courthouse lawn.

The Kiwanis Club and Chamber invite area businesses, industries, organizations, churches, and individuals to participate by entering a float or bringing a group of carolers. Parade lineup begins at 4:30 p.m. at 13th and Washington. The route proceeds west on Washington Street around the downtown square and concludes heading south on 15th Street to Grant Street.

Awards to be presented include:

  • Kiwanis President’s Award – Best Overall Float
  • Best Display of Lights Award
  • Best Theme Award
  • Holiday Spirit Award

In the event of inclement weather, the parade’s snow/rain date is Saturday, November 29 at 6:00 p.m.
